Beginners are invited to drop the puck on a career as a hockey official this Saturday at Calumet High School. Courses will be offered for referees from level one to more advanced certifications. You can expect to spend at least four hours in the session, and more than that for the lower stages. Marc Norton says there is an educational component and an on-ice segment, which will take place at the Colosseum.
Norton says he started calling games because his kids picked him up. He had no experience before.
Norton says he’s continually improving his craft and that USA Hockey certification allows him to host games for youth. You will probably start with bantam or pee wee contests. For those who dream of being on the ice for high school and college games, the institutions governing these games have their own certification process. USA Hockey lessons can be the first stepping stone to this path.
If you cannot attend the seminar, email Norton at firstname.lastname@example.org. The cost depends on the level and goes up to $ 90 to register for a session.
