Morning Report: Adrian Yanez: UFC staff ‘telling me to fuck up’ Tony Kelley at UFC Austin

0

Adrian Yanez vs. Tony Kelley was one of the most heated fights at last weekend’s UFC Austin event.

Last May, Kelley unwittingly made himself public enemy No. 1 among all Brazilians in MMA with less than savory comments spat in the corner about his girlfriend, Andrea Lee, fighting with Viviane Araujo. Claiming that Araujo was eyeing Lee during the fight, Kelly attempted to seemingly cheer Lee up by saying; “That’s what they’re gonna do, they’re dirty f****** Brazilians, they’re gonna f****** cheat like that.”

Araujo ended up winning the fight via unanimous decision and the community immediately turned their support to Yanez who was set to face Kelley on the road. Perhaps most notably, former UFC welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns has publicly stated that he would send Yanez some extra money if he knocked Kelley out. Well, Yanez delivered on his promise by scoring the first-round finish in his home state of Texas.

According to Yanez, some viewers who were surprisingly close to the product were also behind him.

“It’s a great moment for me,” Yanez said. The All Star. “Man, that was a lot of emotion. It was a lot of raw emotion, of me just wanting to fuck this guy, man. I don’t like this guy. I really don’t like this guy, man. Not just because of the comments he said but the things that came before and I’ve heard a lot about him It’s a different thing every time I walk through the halls and the UFC staff tell me to fuck it up.

“He was the first guy I had [people] be like, ‘F*** that guy. Beat the s*** out of it. And there was so much acknowledgment after I booed it that everyone was like, “Thank you, man, damn it.” They’re also the nicest people in the world, man, so that means a little more. It was a little more satisfying. »

Yanez’s win earned him a spot at No. 15 in the official UFC bantamweight rankings. An always entertaining fighter, Yanez’s current winning streak is now at one in 10 as the climb up the 135-pound ladder really begins.

However, the beef with Kelley is not completely crushed although the two have a moment in the octagon after the fight. Taking to Instagram afterwards, Kelley responded to some comments referencing the fight, saying, “He doesn’t want to see me again and he knows it.”

While Yanez certainly has title aspirations in mind, he admits he’s not opposed to getting things back on track with Kelley after earning his fifth straight performance bonus in as many UFC fights.

“Right now he’s trying to talk shit to me, he’s trying to push me to get a rematch and I just said to my managers, bro, if they want to do that rematch, I’d take it 100% because I don’t mind another bonus at all,” Yanez said. “He talks shit so I’m happy with that, man. I’m in his shoes even after the fight.

“He talked shit at the weigh-ins, he talked shit like right after we were backstage and he got angry when I told him I’m going to knock him out, he left and all that. Even during the fight, he was starting to talk shit. Hit him with the checkered hook, he stopped talking (laughs). Then I stopped him and even after, now he’s still talking. Good sure you’re still talking, I took your money, knocked you out and now you’re a meme (laughs) Of course you’re gonna talk, you’re pissed.
