Youth Hockey
All of our local junior hockey leagues are calling for help to fill a serious shortage of officials. Jason Parker of the Copper Country Junior Hockey Association reports that attendance at the recent USA Hockey Officials Seminar last weekend was well below what will be needed to cover the coming season. A second seminar is scheduled as follows:
⢠Monday and Tuesday October 25 and 26 – 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. – Level 1 class.
⢠Thursday October 28 – 6.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. – Class levels 2 and 3.
⢠Monday November 1 – Time to be determined – Levels 1 and 2 Ice weather.
Adults and young experienced players can register to become officials. You must first register on USAHockey.com. The Finlandia University women’s soccer team will play at Maranatha Baptist this afternoon.

Saturday’s soccer match between Finlandia and Martin Luther University has been canceled due to COVID-19 protocols. Neither school says which team has the problem. The contest could be caught up later in the season, if team schedules allow.

The Detroit Pistons lost to the New York Knicks 108-100 in a preseason game last night. Jerami Grant led Detroit with 18 points. Isaiah Stewart took eight rebounds.

Exchange of outdoor sports equipment
The Copper Country Ski Tigers will be holding their fall outdoor gear swap on Saturday at Ray Kestner Waterfront Park in Houghton. Buy and sell outdoor gear – cross-country skis, snowmobiles, bikes, camping gear, outdoor gear, or any other item for quiet sports enthusiasts.
Items for sale must be dropped off between 8:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. The sale takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Pick up any unsold items and / or checks for materials sold between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
There is a 15 percent commission, with a maximum of $ 75.00 per item, charged on all items sold. All proceeds are used to support the Copper Country Ski Tigers racing teams.
